## Worth keeping in mind

- Choose between a photo, an agreed plan and a task before comparing apps.
- Check device support, recipients and visible information on your actual screens.
- Test a harmless update; urgent changes and shared expectations still need direct contact.

> Your partner’s coffee photo has replaced the weather forecast. Lovely. The dinner plan is still in three different message threads.

A widget app for couples can put a photo, task or upcoming plan on your phone’s screen. Choose which of those jobs you want before choosing the app. A small window into your shared life can be useful, provided you both know what it shows and who else might see it.

## Decide what deserves a place on the screen

If you keep missing agreed plans, look for a calendar or task view. If you want a small affectionate hello, a photo widget may suit you better. Neither needs to contain your whole relationship.

Try finishing this sentence: “When I glance at my phone, I would like to see…” One person might want the next agreed evening together; the other might prefer an occasional picture. You can choose different widgets. Matching Home Screens are not a commitment ceremony.

A widget displays information from an app. It does not establish that an appointment was accepted, that someone saw an update or that a reply is due. Keep important agreements in the conversation or shared record you already use.

## Compare two documented options

Cupla’s iPhone widget article describes views for calendars, tasks and reminders. Consider this kind of widget when you want agreed plans within easy reach. Confirm the current device support, subscription requirements and which calendars a chosen view includes. An iOS feature announcement does not establish that the same widget exists on Android.

For photos, Locket’s developer description explains that pictures can appear on friends’ Home Screens. Its help centre gives widget setup instructions for iPhone, iPad and Android. It is a social app rather than a private space automatically limited to your partner, so check recipients before sending. Confirm current access and paid options in your own store.

These are documented examples checked on 23 October 2026, not hands-on rankings. Choose the function first. A photograph will not settle a scheduling disagreement; a calendar will not convey everything you meant by “thinking of you”.

## Add the widget on each person’s own phone

On iPhone, Apple’s current instructions start with holding an empty Home Screen area, choosing Edit, then Add Widget. Select the app and size you want. Home Screen, Lock Screen and Today View are different places to display information; check which your chosen app supports.

On Pixel, Google describes holding an empty Home Screen area, opening Widgets, choosing an available widget and positioning it. Other Android devices and launchers can use different labels. Use the instructions for your actual phone if they differ.

Each person sets up their own display. Installing an app on one phone does not establish the other person’s account, sharing permissions or widget configuration. Keep separate accounts where the service supports them rather than handing over a password to make setup quicker.

## Check the view you are offering other people

A phone on a meeting table is a small public noticeboard. Before adding a romantic photograph or an appointment title, ask whether both of you would welcome it being visible there. Children, colleagues or friends may see a screen without opening the app.

Apple documents controls for access to Lock Screen widgets. Some privacy behaviour also depends on the app’s implementation. Check the actual display with harmless information rather than assuming a locked phone hides every detail. You can choose a less revealing widget or keep that information inside the app.

Agree before sharing someone’s image. An invitation to exchange photos does not include permission to post them elsewhere, and either person can change what they are comfortable sending. A flower, a familiar view or a silly mug can carry affection without showing another person or their location.

## Try one harmless update together

Try this check before relying on the widget. Both people choose to participate, and either can decide it is not useful.

- Choose a sample: a neutral photo or an event called “Calendar check”. Avoid addresses, private appointments and sensitive images.
- Check the selected account, recipients or calendar. Make one ordinary update, then compare the app’s information with the widget on each intended phone.
- Look at the relevant Home Screen or Lock Screen as someone nearby might see it. Agree what belongs there and how you will change or remove the display.

A delayed picture does not establish that your partner ignored you. Locket’s help describes possible refresh delays and suggests checking app and operating-system updates. For a time-sensitive change, contact each other directly; a widget is a poor way to announce that you cannot collect someone.

## Keep the little hello optional

Decide whether photos are occasional surprises or something you actually want regularly. Leave room for an ordinary busy day without interpreting an unchanged square as a relationship verdict.

Review whether the widget makes anything easier. You may keep the coffee photo and move dinner arrangements to a shared calendar. The useful result is a little warmth or a clearer plan, with less reason to keep checking the screen.

Quick answers

## Frequently asked questions

Which widget app is best for couples?

Choose by the job. Cupla documents iPhone calendar and task widgets; Locket documents photo widgets and setup on iOS and Android. Check current features, cost and privacy arrangements before choosing.

Can we use widgets if one phone is an iPhone and the other is Android?

Check the specific app and widget, not only whether the app has both store listings. Locket documents setup for both platforms; that does not mean every other couples app offers matching widgets.

Does removing a widget delete the app or our shared information?

Do not assume that it does. Display, account sharing and stored data are separate questions. Google distinguishes removing a Home Screen item from uninstalling an app; check the provider’s current deletion and sharing controls.
